Fiestas required to cancel parade due to construction of Highway NM 68.
The celebration of music, food, and dance will continue on Taos Plaza July 22 - 24, 2022
Taos, NM – We are excited to have Las Fiestas de Taos back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The celebration is scheduled for July 22 - 24, 2022 at the Historic Taos Plaza.
Unfortunately, because of the extensive construction project on NM 68, the New Mexico Department of Transportation did not approve a permit to proceed with the popular Las Fiestas de Taos Historical Parade that would normally begin at Taos High School and end at the main Post Office via Paseo del Pueblo. For the safety and welfare of the community, and convenience of the crews, it was determined that a parade through the middle of town was not conducive to a large procession or a crowd of spectators.
“Despite not being able to host the much-adored, historical parade this year, we are still very excited to celebrate the gathering of generations on Taos Plaza to enjoy traditional food, music and dance, while honoring the cultural uniqueness that is Taos.” said Pascualito Maestas, Town of Taos Mayor. “We look forward to seeing the community in honoring our traditions.”
Taos Fiestas Children’s Parade will continue on Saturday, July 23 at 10:00 AM beginning at Enos Garcia Elementary School.
Las Fiestas de Taos is a partnership of the Taos Fiesta Council, Town of Taos and the Taos Community Foundation.
¡QUE VIVAN LAS FIESTAS!
